Rode VIDEOMICPRO - Camera Microphone
The RODE VideoMic Pro is a true shotgun microphone designed for use with camcorders, DSLR cameras and portable audio recorders as a source of primary and reference audio. At the heart of the VideoMic Pro is an all-new 1/2" condenser capsule that provides broadcast-quality audio via a 3.5mm minijack connector (outputting the mono signal to both left and right channels) with an incredibly low self-noise of just 14db. A super-cardioid polar pattern ensures that surrounding audio is minimised, and your recording is focused on the subject in front of the camera.
The integrated Rycote Lyre based shock mounting system separates the VideoMic Pro capsule and electronics from its mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions, and will never wear out, sag or snap. Easily accessible on the rear face of the microphone are the power, filter and level controls. In addition to the microphone's native 40Hz-20kHz response a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded. Below these controls are the level settings, which attenuate or boost the recorded level as required. The -10dB level attenuation (or PAD) is ideal for recording loud sound sources, such as live music, motorsport, or interviews where the subject is very close to the camera. The +20dB level boost is designed for use with DSLR cameras, allowing the user to reduce the camera's preamp level (or mic-input level), effectively reducing the amount of noise generated by the camera's comparatively low quality audio circuitry.
Excellent quality of sound, especially for panning and spacial awareness. The battery life can seem to go quite fast at around 10 hours with a single AA battery
You can record in MP3 or WAV formats at the simple switch of a button, and can similarly alter other recording settings:
-MP3: 48kbps up to 320kbps
-WAV: 44kHz/16bit, all the way up to 96kHz/24Bit. Overall, a brilliant recording device at a great price. The accessory kit could be better, but for this cheap price it works perfectly as a starter kit.
The accessory kit is great for a starting kit, but it would have been a lovely bonus if a larger bag was given to store all of the equipment in. The case for the recorder itself fits it perfectly, but only after you remove the windscreen first (which is a hassle to fit on at first, but eventually becomes easier). The tripod is small, but gets the job done.
It was a challenge and a big wish of mine to make Photos and Video recordings of waterfowl in the eye to eye level.
Today, after 3 Years I have spend many hours in the Pools and watch the waterfolw and other interessting acticitys in my Hide.
Somtimes , when a Kingfisher sitting on Top, this are just great Moments for me.
My floating cover Hide place to build a secure basis for the expensive equipment is with a load of 25 kg.
See in my report on this as I have implemented it.
I've attached below file the drawing for the construction of the floating tarnzeltes with the material list as a PDF download. Those who are interested can make like this, I must point out however that anyone who builds up the raft, makes this at your own risk.
In the photo gallery I included images of individual components and stages of construction. And now have fun with tinkering and more shooting.
