Migration Birds - Zugvögel April 2025 (1)

This year, the beginning of April is significantly cooler and very windy, so vegetation is somewhat lagging behind in some areas of the Akamas Peninsula. The mulberry trees urgently need more warmth to ripen their fruits, the main food source for birds like the golden oriole, more quickly. The first rollers have arrived in their traditional breeding grounds, albeit not in large numbers. The Cyprus wheatears, on the other hand, are in full breeding season and are busy collecting insects for their young.

Unfortunately, the jeep safaris in the Akamas Peninsula often travel in close proximity to the resting migratory birds this year, and the quad bike safaris also race through the landscape with deafening noise. Consideration for nature in Akamas' unique Nature 2000 protected area is a must.

Dieses Jahr ist der Aprilanfang deutlich kühler und sehr windig, sodass die Vegetation in einigen Gebieten der Akamas-Halbinsel etwas hinterherhinkt. Die Maulbeerbäume brauchen dringend mehr Wärme, damit die Früchte, die Hauptnahrungsquelle für Vögel wie den Pirol, schneller reifen. Die ersten Blauracken sind in ihren traditionellen Brutgebieten angekommen, wenn auch nicht in großer Zahl. Die Zypern-Steinschmätzer hingegen sind in vollem Brutbetrieb und sammeln fleißig Insekten für ihren Nachwuchs.

Leider sind die Jeep-Safaris in der Akamas-Halbinsel auch dieses Jahr wieder häufig in unmittelbarer Nähe zu den rastenden Zugvögel unterwegs, auch die Quad-Safaris rasen mit ohrenbetäubendem Lärm durch die Landschaft. Rücksichtnahme auf die Natur in Akamas einzigartigem Nature 2000 Schutzgebiet zu tun.
